How we can help
Support from people who live up the road, have sat in the same waiting rooms, and know which nurse is on this afternoon. Everything on this page is free.
What we offer
-
A proper conversation
Call 5800 8944 at any reasonable hour and a volunteer who has been where you are will pick up. There’s no script and no referral form. We can meet for a coffee, a walk along the promenade, or just talk on the phone.
-
M&S bra vouchers
After surgery, bras that don’t fit are uncomfortable and demoralising. If you’ve been newly diagnosed, ring us for a £25 voucher for M&S Gibraltar. There’s no paperwork.
-
Hospital visits
Treatment can be lonely. A volunteer can sit with you at St Bernard’s during chemotherapy, for the first session or for every one of them. Just ask.
-
Counselling
Sometimes you need more than a friendly chat. We work with trusted counsellors in Gibraltar, can refer you privately, and can help with the cost.
-
Travel and hardship grants
If your treatment can’t be done in Gibraltar, we help with the cost of getting to the UK or Spain: flights, hotels, taxis. If money is tight during treatment, talk to us. It stays between us.
-
Practical help at home
Shopping during chemo, lifts to appointments, a meal dropped round, a school pick-up. We can’t always promise, but we can usually find someone.
-
Someone who had the same treatment
Our volunteers between them have had lumpectomies, mastectomies, reconstruction, chemo and hormone therapy. If you’d like to talk to someone who has had what you’re having, we’ll put you in touch.
-
Information you can trust
Clear booklets on surgery, side effects, lymphoedema and life afterwards, all from reputable sources. Collect them from us or we’ll post them.
-
For family and carers
Partners, parents, children and friends need support too, and we’ve helped plenty of them over the years. Same number, same offer.
How to get support
There’s no form, no referral letter and no eligibility check.
Get in touch
Call 5800 8944 or email [email protected]. If you’d rather someone else rang for you, that’s fine too.
We listen
Tell us as much or as little as you like. Everything is confidential unless you ask us to share it.
We help, or find who can
If it’s something we can’t do ourselves, we’ll tell you who can and help you get to them.
In their own words
“I rang on the worst day of my life. They picked up on the second ring and just listened. That call kept me going.”
“The voucher seems small but it wasn’t. After my mastectomy I couldn’t face shopping. They sorted it before I asked twice.”
“A volunteer sat with me at every chemo session. I never had to ask. She just kept turning up.”
